How is Ultrasound-Assisted Lipo Different Than Traditional Liposuction?
NT
Dr. Nicole Thomas
Board-Certified Surgeon

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses high-frequency sound waves to liquefy fat before removal, offering advantages over traditional mechanical suction methods.
The Technology: Ultrasonic energy delivered through specialized cannulas breaks down fat cell walls, making removal easier while preserving surrounding tissue. VASER technology represents the latest advancement with pulsed energy delivery.
Key Differences: Traditional liposuction mechanically breaks up and suctions fat, requiring more physical force. Ultrasound-assisted methods liquefy fat first, requiring less force and causing less trauma to surrounding tissues.
Advantages: Reduced blood loss during procedure, less damage to nerves and blood vessels, decreased post-operative bruising and swelling, more precise fat removal in fibrous areas, and faster recovery times.
Considerations: Slightly increased risk of fluid pocket formation (easily drained if needed), requires specialized equipment and training, and procedure time may vary depending on treatment area size.
Recovery: Similar compression garment requirements, but generally less post-operative pain and faster return to normal activities compared to traditional liposuction.
